Contracted by BP to look after the opening ceremony of a new oil pipeline, we were asked to arrange transport of the entire event. The event took place over one day, with the event comprising of 4 smaller events. An opening ceremony at the pipeline, a guided tour of the local museum, a gala dinner / party at the museum and a concert in the local football stadium (complete with firework display).
The movement of the freight was accomplished using 10 full trailer loads and the chartering of an AN-124, the second largest cargo plane in the world.
To accomplish the task, we were given the day of the event, and worked backwards from there, giving the suppliers the latest drop dead dates for getting the goods together. The staging area was shipped by road on the ten vehicles, and the 80,000 Kilos of AV, Sound, Video and display equipment being sent in the AN-124.
Although a stressful time for all concerned, the ceremony and concert went off without any problems, and the client, BP were very happy with every aspect of the job.
